Crazy, Beautiful Life

I remember a time when I could sit down and read a book in one night. I remember a time when my house was squeaky clean. I remember a time when my husband and I stayed up watching movies and sleeping until noon. Even though it’s been over 5 years since any of these memories were reality, I feel like life has become exponentially crazier with the addition of d3. Bless his heart, he can be a sweet little guy. It’s his older brothers that I can’t keep up with.

It’s been over a month since I’ve blogged (w/ the exception of my ‘oath’) and it’s been driving me nuts that I can’t seem to carve out a few minutes to get this done. Of course, most evenings I do have a little time that I could do this once the 3 Stooges are down for the count. But by the time that happens, I find myself migrating to the couch and having some TV time or Wii action. Although I’ve been wanting to blog, I really have no monumental news to write about. Which I’m perfectly fine with. So we’ll go with a Family of D’s update. And as a fellow blogger once put it, these are revelations, not complaints. Sometimes. For the most part.

Our house is on the market. Again. But this time we're serious. We LOVE our home, we have lots of space but we are just too far out to be involved in everything we would like. And if we do it anyway, we just tire out so fast from all the driving. So, please pray that our house sells someday, preferably within the next few months. We're growing weary of maintaining with our busy work schedules. So, that's probably the biggest news for us. Oh, and some of our BFFs are expecting soon. Some with their first (TWIN girls!), some with their second or third but we are so excited for all of them. I'm good with buying PINK!

‘d1 – he is now in the second half of his kindergarten year and he’s doing great. His writing is great and he’s starting to read really well. I am so proud of him when I see him sounding out words he does not know by sight. He has received 2 awards for perfect attendance, a writing award and a couple of Lifesaver awards from his teacher. These are awards given when a teacher catches a student demonstrating a positive life skill such as patience, honesty, integrity, etc. I will be honest and say that I don’t remember what he got them for and am too lazy to go upstairs and pull them out of his ‘memory box’ but I’m very proud of him. He also just wrapped up his second season of church basketball this past Saturday. It was so much fun this year to watch him do what he absolutely loves! All in all, my little guy is really growing up, and at an excessive rate, I might add. Now, if we can just keep his hands out of his pants. The boy is obsessed with his ‘friend’ and it doesn’t matter where he is – home, church, music class. Yes, I’m serious about music class, too. His teacher had to ask him to please remove his hand from his pants. I have to say, I’m a little terrified – one day he’ll discover more about his friend and its capabilities. I just might need therapy.

‘d2 – a big PRAISE with this boy is that we are going on 8 months with no stitches. That’s a record, as crazy as that sounds for a 3-year-old. He is thriving in his new preschool, learning more and more every day. Our conversations on the drive home make me laugh. Most days. However, recently it has become less funny and more irritating. I now have to drive with my rearview mirror tilted to where I can see the backseat. That’s because all too often, d2’s little fingers wander over to some part of the baby’s body – eyes, ears, mouth, belly button – among other things. So my conversations tend to go like this – ‘so what did you eat for…….get your fingers out of his nose, please put your socks back on your feet, no he does not like to taste your dirty fingers, stop pulling on your lip, you can have a drink at home, please don’t pick your nose, DO NOT wipe it on him, we’re almost home, no, pushing his belly button does not make him laugh.’ At this point, he asks if he can sing to me and I love to hear him sing, his munchkin voice is so precious. If only he wanted to sing something other than ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ over and over and over. ‘d2 is also doing great on his new bike and is super cute with his helmet on. I will find that camera and I will post pictures. One day. For now, just envision it.

‘d3 – ah, my baby boy. Not so much a baby anymore. He will be 11 months old next week – crazy! He’s crawling everywhere and has recently started cruising the furniture a bit. In fact, last week I went upstairs and thought he was in with D1. When I came back downstairs, he met me on the staircase – 7 steps up from the bottom. My heart sank – he could have toppled all the way back down but luckily he didn’t. He’s a brave lil’ man and wants in on all the wrestling action, too, with the big boys. He’s still a chunky boy and has a passion for eating – he fits in quite nicely in our household. He will randomly throw out a ‘da-da’ or ‘na-na’ (food – we think). His personality is constantly evolving and I can already see that he might be a bit like his oldest brother with his fiery temper and determination to be independent. Whew, praying for patience if that’s the case. I do find myself tearing up a bit when I see him achieve these milestones and thinking how this is our last baby. Or is it? For now, he’s our last. Never say never, I guess. I love my boys and I feel like I’m a good mom of boys but there’s always that tugging at my heart for a blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl. Oh, who am I kidding? If we ever had one, she would probably want nothing to do with dresses and dolls.

Although I may lack a little sleep in these years and I may never be able to call my house ‘spotless’ again, I know none of that matters. Instead of reading books alone, I get to read books to my boys. Instead of cleaning incessantly to impress….no one, I get to dirty it up in the kitchen baking muffins and meatloaves with my mini-chefs. And instead of sleeping my life away, I get to wake up each morning to the smiling, ornery faces of my three healthy children. Nothing better, friends.

great post. i love to read what you write and since it's about time for another post on my blog, I think i'll just copy and paste this one onto mine, changing the names of course, because everything else seems to apply so nicely in our lives too.

Love it.

d1 - You were killing me talking about his friend. So funny.

d2 - 8 mos with no stitches - you go boy!

d3 - I can't believe this guy is 11months old. That is so crazy. It seems like he was just born.

It is so hard to keep up with everything when your kids are small and when we actually have the time again, I know we will miss this stage of life. Oh the irony...you just can't have it all at once. Unless of course you are a Housewife in the OC and have 2 nannies to help you take care of your 3 kids! LOL

HAHAHA!!! I have been waiting with great excitement for a new post :) Very good. AND I almost fell out of my chair with the "discover more of his friend and its capabilities" HAHA! Hilarious, but not so hilarious when Preston starts doing it!

What an honest and wonderful update. Your last paragraph says it all perfectly. Yes we forego many things when we step into the role of motherhood, but oh the blessings that fill our lives! :)
